Greenville police arrest dad after child brought THC edible to school

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — A Greeneville dad was arrested Thursday afternoon after his child brought a THC edible to school and shared it with his classmates, a police report shows.

The Greeneville Police Department said they responded to Highland Elementary on Thursday around 10:30 a.m. The report doesn't detail what led to the discovery at the school.


The report said police interviewed Lenin Figuero and determined he "engaged in conduct that placed his child in imminent danger of mental impairment."

According to the report, Figuero put a chocolate candy bar containing Delta-8 THC in the cabinet of his home. Police said the child then took the candy bar to school, "where they consumed it with several other children." Police said the chocolate was still in the wrapper, labeling it as having THC.

GPD did not elaborate as to how old the children were or what grade they were in. EMS did respond and checked out the children involved. 

Highland Elementary principal Noelle Smith sent the following message to families:

 

We are dealing with an issue at the school where a student brought a candy bar containing Delta-8 from home and shared it with other students. We are actively addressing this situation and determining exactly which students may have ingested this substance. Out of an abundance of caution, Greeneville Police Department, local emergency medical personnel, and the school nurse are evaluating the affected students. Parents of the affected students have been contacted. If any additional students are determined to have ingested the substance, parents will be notified. Due to our need to maintain student confidentiality, we cannot share additional details about individual students. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the district office at 423-787-8000. As always, student safety is our top priority. We are grateful for the quick response of our staff and community partners, and we are following all appropriate policies and procedures as we address this situation.

Figuero is charged with one count of child abuse and neglect.
